Show Choir is where it all started for me. It
is a group of kids in high school that have a show arranged and choreographed
for them. The kids then perform it at various competitions, and the
show is judged. Each show choir is guaranteed one performance per
competition, and if they are good enough to make the finals, then the choir
gets 2 performances. I was lucky enough to be in one of the top 3 show
choirs in America. Our group never missed the finals in the two years
that I was in it. This is what turned me onto performing as a career
option or as a hobby. The people listed above are the people that
I owe any success that I have in this business or with anything that I do.
To this day, I still respect them the most. I don't forget where I
come from, and who helped me get where I am. *Me Singing a Solo*

You see, the problem is that the show choir would
learn 3 or 4 shows a year. We would have a camp show to get us ready,
a christmas show, and a competiton show that was always our best show. I
am not going to name all seven shows that I did in my two years in the
Hilltopper Show Choir. I am just going to name the competition show
numbers. I probably performed over 45 different songs in two years. |
The dancing ranged from classical type dancing,
to partner dancing, to all out new age hip-hop. It all depended on
the song that was being performed. Some stuff was really technical
and crisp while other stuff was funky and loose. It was the perfect
way to get a little bit of everything in a short amount of time. We
were also choreographed by the best show choir choreographer in the business,
Dwight Jordan, who also does theme parks in Branson and Gurnee, IL amongst
other places. *Final Pose of Our First Number* |
As a senior, the choir had a record of 6-1, which
is the best in the Hilltopper history. We beat many choirs that hadn't
been defeated in a long time. This was the year that put us on the
map because the next year, the show choir went undefeated and won showstoppers
in Chicago. I am most proud of what we helped to start. Our
class made a standard that the other show choirs are forced to live up to.
This is what drives them to become better every year. As a senior, I also won the "Best Male Dancer Award" I did also perform solos and group songs with others in high school, but these were at Christmas concerts and cabarets, not at competitions. So, show choir was also my first taste of solo and group singing. |
